Happy Tuesday!
While I was stitching the other day, I listened to a podcast about the very interesting history of Champagne. The podcaster covered some of the story of the region, as well as the famous drink that bears it’s name.
I learned so much from this episode; for example that Dom Perignon was a real person. First Chef Boyardee, now Dom Perignon. I find myself squinting at other brand names and brand mascots wondering, “Were they a real person too?”
But back to Champagne. I won’t say anything else, because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Here’s the podcast I was listening to:
I started listening to this podcast at the beginning of the month, and it’s a must listen! The episodes are short, about ten minutes long, but absolutely packed with interesting information. Definitely recommend!
Now, I know that I said I’d wait to reach one hundred subscribers on Instagram before I did a giveaway (sitting at 71 right now!) but I want the winner of the giveaway to stitch this Fall chart in season; and I might not make it to one hundred subscribers before Halloween!
So instead of waiting, the giveaway is open now. Details about when it stops, and how to sign up are here.
Do you wear a watch? A few years ago, it seemed like no one was wearing watches; then smart watches came out. Since their invention, I’ve seen a definite uptick in watch-wearing. Myself, I prefer non-smart watches. Here’s my everyday watch:
My old watch broke at the beginning of the summer after six years of loyal service. It was analog, so this time I opted for digital to shake things up a bit. This watch is nifty, because it has so many interesting features; an alarm clock, a stopwatch, the date and day of the week, to name a few. I see it “in the wild” (when I’m out of the house, YouTubers wearing it etc.) so that speaks to it’s popularity. According to this article, it’s seems to be a favorite of a lot of people!
Casio isn’t from Switzerland, but this is a really fascinating video about Swiss watches. I knew Switzerland was famous for watches, but I had never heard of Watch Valley:
This week, WIP progress has only been for Paris Market. I won’t include a picture of Medieval Menagerie, as I haven’t added one additional stitch since the last time I saw it. To make up for that, I include two pictures of Paris Market, one a close-up and super artsy, the other one a standard WIP update picture:
Moving from green to yellow now. Filling in the green first was very time consuming, but definitely the right move. It’s much easier to stitch the various flowers. Don’t think I’ll be adding the backstitch and French knots yet, I’ll do those after I get all the cross stitch done. The September deadline is really barreling towards me, but I think I’ll make it!
I am very happy to report that the weather at the Castle has been wet and overcast this past week. My weather widget informs me that, “It will rain off and on.” Music to my ears! My salmon colored umbrella hasn’t seen much use over the summer, but hopefully it will see much more use in these pleasant August storms. Perfect stitching weather :)
How is the weather in your corner of the world right now?
It hasn’t been all rain and stitching on flowers over here; the new chart is really starting to come together:
I’ve changed the border, moved around some blocks, and made some slight changes to the motifs. Some of the letters might be getting bigger, while I may still make some others smaller. The letter B has a bell now, I moved the bell from the J. The squares that have no letters, just motifs, like the dog, heart, flower etc. have been moved to their respective numbers. E.g. D for dog, H for heart. I’m very fond of that pocket watch. T for time! I also changed the letter V. While not done yet, I do plan on both selling this chart in my shop, and giving a few away. Stay tuned!
