Halloween Freebie
Longtime readers of the blog will know all about my love for Spooky season. Usually, I start counting down the days until Halloween on November 1st, and then my Halloween thoughts go dormant for a while until they resurface in September. But this year my Halloween mood has hit me a little earlier than usual. This is probably the fault of the Halloween/ spooky fall vibes accounts I come across on Instagram, luring me in with their vintage Halloween decor, and alluring pictures of coffee mugs on windowsills with a view of orange and red leaves tumbling down picturesque streets. You know the ones.
Instead of just pacing my Castle, and pining for October, I've decided to give you, dear reader, a head start on your Halloween stitching with a Halloween cross stitch freebie. So, while I’m interrupting your summer atmosphere, it’s for the good reason of giving you time to stitch something and get it fully finished and displayed in time for your Autumn decorating!
Mr. Owl is the star of the show in the center of the chart, while birds are flying overhead in a night sky with a crescent moon. At the bottom of the chart are gnarled old trees, while geometric motifs form the borders.
I call for one color throughout, DMC 550, a rich purple. You can use any color or colors you want, though. It would be fun to use variegated floss for this chart.
The stitch count is 55 x 90. If you were to stitch this on 18 count Aida, the finished size would be approximately 3 inches (7.8cm) wide x 5 inches (12.7cm) high. It's not too big, but not too small, and that makes it just the right-sized seasonal WIP. You could make it into an ornament, a cushion, or frame it. If you want to calculate the finished size on different counts or types of fabric, click the link here to go to a cross stitch calculator.

WIP Update
So much sparkly green filament since the last time. This next row has been big blocks of color, so it's just flying by. Aurora is really starting to take shape! We've had a good deal of rain here at the Castle lately, so less time in the garden means more stitching time. By the end of the Summer, I hope to have moved the Q-Snap at least once. My next big decision will be which direction should I start stitching? If I go up, I could start stitching her torso, and maybe even reach her arms or her face. If I go down, I could finish her fin, and maybe start stitching the letters. Tough decisions will have to be made...
Odds & Ends
I knew I needed this book dresser the moment I saw it.
